2012 TIME 100: The Most Influential People in the World - Raphael Saadiq By Elton John
Raphael Saadiq has been on my radar since the first Tony! Toni! Toné! album, Who? I became a huge fan of the band. When Raphael, 45, began a solo career making albums and producing for a host of major artists, I kept a keen eye on whatever he did, hoping that one day our paths would cross musically. With the release of The Way I See It, I was blown away. It became my album of the year — a soul record of the highest quality. I phoned him to congratulate him and asked if he would consider playing at my annual AIDS Foundation Oscar party. He agreed, and his performance was brilliant. Immaculately dressed (a Saadiq trademark) and moving like the soul stars of old, he confirmed that great black music is alive and well and not just a string of hip-hop monotony. This year he played on my new record, The Diving Board. He contributed so much to the music, and we had a ball! His presence is already massive. It will only increase — and rightfully so.

I’ll never stop working on my craft: teaching or acting or studying. When I’m 80 years old, not a tooth in my mouth or a hair on my head, I’ll still be knocking on doors. I am here to stay. I’m not going anywhere. - Richard Lawson

http://www.joespub.com/component/option,com_shows/task,view/Itemid,40/id,6162Born of worldly travels and spiritual travails, Imani Uzuri’s rich acoustic songs on The Gypsy Diaries find fresh settings for unifying human experiences: the loss of loved ones, the joy of discovering, the alienation and shifts of moving, meeting, and departing. Riveting live, Uzuri will celebrate her new album on June 1st at Joes Pub at 7PM in New York.
“Ultimately, this album is about finding my place through the traveling,” Uzuri explains, “the communion, the loneliness, victories, sadness, losses, euphorias, revelations, transformations coming to understand that I am always here: home.”
Featuring Amazing Musicians:
Kaoru Watanabe (Japanese shinobue flute)
Marika Hughes (cello)
Christian Ver Halen (acoustic guitar)

After a long day at Dorchester. On my way to do something else art related I ran into this. I stopped my car just to take in the moment.

Untitled Sketch (Fish Heads)
2012It’s growing on me. Took a proper look and decided to scan it. It’s a 8.5 x 11”, pen ink and pencil sketch I did on xerox printing paper (not so sure if that’s even archival). At first I wanted to use it as a sketch for a project I plan on doing for a print later this summer, but I like it by itself as well. I think I might include it on my portfolio site, along with another digital doc I found while rummaging through files from 2010. Of course, me being OCD as I am, I had to make something as slimy and rather unclean as chopped fish heads on a platter, look as minimal and cleanly as possible. Sigh.
